Marks & Provenance
Maker's marks, stamps, signatures, and labels are photographed and noted when present. We research and share what we know about origin and attribution.
How We Date & Describe
We use conservative dating practices based on construction methods, materials, style characteristics, and documented marks. When we're certain of a date or maker, we state it. When attribution is probable but not definitive, we note it as such.
Our terminology:
- Antique: 100+ years old
- Vintage: 20-99 years old
- Attributed to: Strong stylistic or material evidence suggests this maker/period
- Circa: Approximate date based on style and construction
- Marked: Bears a visible maker's mark, stamp, or signature
Condition Grading
We describe condition honestly and in detail. Expect to see notes about:
- Original finish vs. refinished surfaces
- Wear consistent with age and use
- Repairs, replacements, or alterations
- Structural integrity
- Patina, oxidation, or natural aging
